City Library of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund

The Stralsund City Library (Stadtbibliothek Stralsund) is located in an old merchants building in the middle of the historic town centre. The original structure underwent extensive renovations and now houses a modern media centre over five floors.

Computers are available locally for catalogue and internet searches. The entire library catalogue can also be accessed via the internet under katalog.stralsund.de. The entrance area of the library has a reading room in which visitors can lounge and leaf through newspapers or a wide range of periodicals. Our free Wi-Fi hotspot provides internet access for personal laptops, iPads and smartphones.

All library users have the option of using the online e-media service “Onleihe” remotely to access more than 9,000 e-books and other electronic media from the Stralsund City Library.

In the library cellar, there is a multi-functional space where readings, book presentations, small musical events and exhibitions regularly take place.

In its foreign-language collection, the Stralsund City Library offers a large selection of English-language novels as well as samples of Russian-, French- and Swedish-language literature.
