City Library of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund
The Stralsund City Library (Stadtbibliothek Stralsund) is located in an old merchants building in the middle of the historic town centre. The original structure underwent extensive renovations and now houses a modern media centre over five floors.
Computers are available locally for catalogue and internet searches. The entire library catalogue can also be accessed via the internet under katalog.stralsund.de. Furthermore, there is an app for research, reservation and account management available for Android and iOS. The entrance area of the library has a reading room in which visitors can lounge and leaf through newspapers or a wide range of periodicals. A free Wi-Fi hotspot provides internet access for personal laptops, tablets and smartphones.
All library users have the option of using the online e-media service “Onleihe” remotely to access more than 89.000 e-books and other electronic media from the Stralsund City Library.
In the library cellar, there is a multi-functional space where readings, book presentations, small musical events and exhibitions regularly take place.
In its foreign-language collection, the Stralsund City Library offers a large selection of English-language novels as well as samples of Arabian-, Russian-, French- and Swedish-language literature.

The Children’s Library at the top floor is a meeting place for anyone who loves to read and enjoys exploring the world of media. All children are welcome to come by and browse through the books, magazines, videos, DVDs and CDs, and PC games.
